Redundancy seminar - free update

mpm legal LLP has teamed up with the Employment Team of 3 Paper Buildings, a leading Barristers' Chambers, to provide this seminar to you.

The seminar will focus on how to run a fair redundancy process and what steps you can take to avoid Employment Tribunal claims. During the seminar we will provide you with an update on current best practice in redundancy together with an interactive discussion of the problems we encounter and that you and your peers may be experiencing.

The seminar will take the form of an informal but interactive round table discussion undertaken on each occasion with a small group of delegates. During the seminar you will have the opportunity to engage in the discussion, network with your peers, observe points being made, raise issues and problems and receive guidance on how to practically undertake a redundancy programme.

The seminars will take place in Reading in October. Details of the venue will follow once we have your response. At present we are proposing the following seminars:

Tuesday breakfast seminar - 7 October 2008
Tuesday lunchtime seminar  - 7 October 2008
Thursday breakfast seminar - 23 October 2008
Thursday lunch seminar - 23 October 2008

Spaces are limited and will be provided on a first come first served basis.

Why mpm legal LLP?

Whilst a new firm, the providers of the seminar have valuable and substantial experience in advising clients on how to run fair redundancy processes in large or small enterprises. Mark Minns will lead the training session and will touch on topics such as:

• What is a redundancy situation?
• Collective redundancy - additional risks
• Who has special protection?
• Dos and don'ts of selection
• Avoiding redundancy in the first place
• Common traps and mistakes

Assisting Mark will be Barristers from 3 Paper Buildings who are one of the largest and oldest Barristers' Chambers in the UK established in London with centres in Bournemouth, Bristol, Oxford, and Winchester. The Employment Team at 3 Paper Buildings are well used to representing employees and employers in the Employment Tribunals concerning redundancy claims. They will join each seminar to participate and inform the discussion sharing their experiences of common problems encountered in defending redundancy claims in the Employment Tribunal.

In particular:

• How does a Tribunal operate?
• What documentation is required?
• Which witnesses are important?
• How do you prepare for a Tribunal?
• Dos and don'ts in a Tribunal?
• What will the Tribunal be looking for from the Respondent?
